Planned route

The OPAL (Ostsee-Pipeline-Anbindungs-Leitung – Baltic Sea Pipeline Link) will connect Germany and Europe to the major natural gas reserves in Siberia via the Nord-Stream-Pipeline. This will enhance supply security right in the heart of Europe.

The OPAL will start where the Nord Stream pipeline comes on shore in Lubmin near Greifswald and run south as far as Olbernhau on the German-Czech border. The 470-kilometer-long route will go through three German states: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony. A series of connecting points on the route are planned in order to integrate the OPAL into the existing European natural gas network system.
